Cautionary Tale: Even a simple watch battery replacement needs a trained hand

I wish I could tell you how often I see this. This watch was brought to me today for a battery install after another store in town, one that you would think could effectively do the installation, couldn’t even get the caseback off the watch without marring it (and damaging the leather band).

Counting on an under-trained store employee, or one without access to the proper tools, is a potential disaster. Sometimes it results in exterior damage and blemishes, sometimes it results in a damaged watch movement that might cost hundreds of dollars to fix.

Folks, watch battery installation IS easy when you have the proper tools and training. I have the tools and I have 40 years of experience. Please don’t let an ill-equipped or under-trained person attempt to install your batteries - bring your watch to me at Williamsburg Jewelers. I’m a pro.

And for goodness sake don’t try to do it yourself at home- I make many, many watch repair sales from “do-it-yourselfers” who were convinced they could handle it, only to bring their watches to me in pieces!
